Despite being linked with some of the biggest clubs in the world like Chelsea and Barcelona over the last few months, from Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao decided to move to French football with Monaco.

After being promoted to the French first division only this season, Monaco have been spending big in the transfer window in order to become the next PSG or Manchester City. They have already brought in high profile players like James Rodriguez. Real Madrid defender Ricardo Carvalho has also been signed on a free transfer.

However, the transfer of the summer has been the £ 50 million spent on Radamel Falcao. The Colombian has earned the name as one of the deadliest strikers in the world after helping Atletico Madrid win the Europa league last season. He has scored more than 35 goals last season, which is a record bettered only by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in Spain.

There have been rumours that the move to Monaco is only a stopgap solution for Falcao, who will return to Spanish football with Real Madrid after just six months.
This is due to the fierce rivalry between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, which prevents the direct movement of players. Falcao, though, has rejected such suggestions.

“I don’t think like this. Monaco enticed me because they have a long-term project, because their board are serious and because I love challenges. I hope Guarin comes, it would make me very happy. We are friends and at Porto, along with James (Rodriguez), we won many things. If the three of us play for the same club, that will be good for the national team,” said Falcao, who is believed to be now one of the highest-paid players in the world. Monaco have already spent more than £ 100 million in the transfer window this season.
