Manchester United broke the British transfer record by bringing in Angel di Maria for £ 59.7 million, but it has just been revealed that the transfer fees could go even further depending upon the success of the Argentine in the coming years. Di Maria has become one of the most expensive players in the world after this mega money transfer. However, United could end up paying more than the £ 60 million after Real Madrid have reportedly inserted several clauses into the contract that sold him to the Premier League outfit.
Di Maria is expected to be one of players on the shortlist for the FIFA Ballon d’Or award in the coming campaign after playing a key role in helping Real Madrid win the Champions League. He also was responsible for Argentina reaching the final of the World Cup 2014, even though he missed the match itself. Di Maria may not have scored a number of goals last season, but his 17 assists in the league were the most amongst the top five European leagues. It is rumoured that United will end up paying as much as £ 4 million if di Maria wins the FIFA Ballon d’Or award.
The 26-year-old made his debut for United in the 0-0 draw against Burnley. However, he failed to complete the full 90 minutes, as he appeared to have suffered from a lack of full fitness. He was in a number of chances created by United, which they would have previously not done with the likes of Tom Cleverley in the team. United made a very poor start to the campaign after failing to win the first four matches and this has been one of the main reasons behind di Maria’s arrival. The Premier League giants are not thought to be done with their spending and more could arrive.
